Project Summary

Red Car Analytics provided commissioning for the facility upgrade which was completed in 2020. For the project’s original build, completed in 2015, Michele Sagehorn provided LEED fundamental and enhanced commissioning and Title 24 commissioning.

Shyh Wang Hall facility houses the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, or NERSC, one of the world’s leading super-computing centers for open science, which serves nearly 6,000 researchers in the U.S. and abroad. Shyh Wang Hall will also be the center of operations for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Sciences Network, (ESnet) the fastest network dedicated to science, which connects tens of thousands of scientists as they collaborate on solving some of the world’s biggest scientific challenges.

The systems commissioned include: air handling units, water sourced heat-pumps, packaged units, UFAD system, cooling towers, heat-exchangers and associated pumps, heat-recovery system, exhaust fans, heating hot water system, domestic hot water system, electrical circuit breakers, substations, panelboards, switchboards, and energy meters.

The energy efficient design of this university project included an ALC Control System, offices, meeting spaces, lounges, assembly spaces, classrooms and roof terraces.
